The Gallery is housed in the former Regency Palace. Its holdings consist of works of art (paintings, prints, drawings, sculptures and photographs) from the Baroque period up to the present day.
During the five years of war, the Gallery, just like the Museum, was exposed to frequent artillery attacks from the immediate vicinity of the occupied hinterland of Zadar.

Protection:

During the war, the holdings were stored in a safe place.

Building damage:

May 1992
During the attack on the town, two rockets had hit the northern palace wing. In the Gallery rooms the ceilings had caved in. The parquet, wall plaster and electrical wiring were damaged. Further damage was caused by rain that was falling in through the holes in the ceiling.

Structure damage:

Six pictures from the holdings, on loan to the Science Library, were destroyed by fire (a tempera on paper and five lithographs). The Library building was heavily damaged during shelling in the night of October 5th 1991.
