The City Museum is housed in a former monastery of the Order of St. Clare, built in 1650, and in the Popov watchtower, a defensive tower dating from the 13th century. The museum holds and studies items connected to the cultural, economic and political history of the city of Zagreb.
The Museum has, together with five other Zagreb museums, suffered damage during the bombing of the Upper Town, in October of 1991.

Protection:

The museum holdings were selected according to the category and stored in metal crates in a safe place, as well as the inventory books and microfilms.
The inventory books were microfilmed (one copy is deposited at the MDC).

Building damage:


October 7th 1991
During the rocket attack on the historic nucleus of the Upper Town, the museum buildings were damaged.

The material was not damaged.
