The Gallery is situated near the Old Town, in the restored Sermage Palace, a representative 18th century Baroque building. The holdings include more than 3000 works by Dutch, French, Italian, German and Croatian artists that cover the period from the 15th century to the present day.

Building damage:

September 17th to 19th 1991
During the artillery attack on the town, a shell exploded near the Gallery. Pieces of shrapnel had damaged the palace facade and broken seven windowpanes.
